Finder Cloudburst: Chapter 1, Part 1
Fleagrass village raided
By unknown invaders
Looking to find fish
To bring back home
Their village was hungry
and in the Icebrunt way
They stole from neighbors
with violence
Fleagrass had many fish
Caught from the Fierce River
But when we have need
We do raid too
My name is Grub Cloudburst
I am a fisherman
I will defend home
But not so well
My axe struck the raider
His chest should have a wound
But he had armor
Under jerkin
He was unhurt and I
Looked down at my weapon
My axehead shattered
He raised his sword
The raider stepped towards me
I thought I would soon die
He fell to his knees
Clutching his neck
Standing over the dead
Holding in her hand a
Long bloody dagger
Was my neighbor
We went back to the fight
But the battle was done
Fleagrass villagers
Victorious
The fallen raiders were
Gathered in market square
Twelve enemies died
Our dead were three
A place for healing was
Put near the blacksmith stall
A line of people
Queued for healing
I checked myself for wounds
I had naught but bruises
No foes did I slay
But I survived
I saw the friend that saved
Me a moment ago
I called out to her
She did not hear
“Moss!” I called out to her
And ran over to speak
Tapping her shoulder
Again, “Hi, Moss.”
She spun around and said
“What is it you need, Grub?”
She looked down at me
As bothersome
“I want to give my thanks
I thought I would die there
When my axe head broke
On his armor”
“You should take better care
Of your weapons and such
Better yet you should
Buy more from me”
“We must be ready to
Defend Fleagrass when a
Raiding party comes”
Moss said to me
She returned to her work
Looking at the weapons
Of the dead raiders
Whose gear was ours
“Could I take one of these”
I said of the weapons
“I have no money
For fish are scarce”
Moss chose an axe for me
From the small cache of loot
‘Twas not a good one
But it was free
I left Moss to her work
And saw a woman by
The raiders’ corpses
Reading a book
She wore a long red cloak
Over a warm fur vest
And an apron with
Ink stains on it
