Finder Cloudburst Chapter 5, Part 2
My curiosity
was strong and I asked Wren,
“What did you do with
the wand and knife?”
She recited a rime
from the Lore Crows that tells
of drawing magic
and how it works.
Wren said that the dagger
cuts into the Realm of
Power. The dagger
draws a glyph there.
“Ideally, this is done
in advance so that the
glyphs are ready for
your spell casting.”
“The wand draws the sigil
here in the Living World
when you are ready
to cast your spell.”
“What are glyphs and sigils?”
I asked, eager to learn
as much as I could
from Wren today.
“Perhaps I will teach you
drawing magic in the
future, after you’ve
brought me more finds.”
I left Wren’s house and went
to the market to buy
fresh supplies for my
next adventure.
The catastrophe of
my first adventure did
not dissuade me from
pursuing more.
The freedom of the wild
and the thrill of the find
had captured my heart.
I was smitten.
But for tonight, I was
glad to sleep in my bed.
I dreamt of distant
lands and treasure.
Over the next two weeks,
I wearily wandered
the wilds looking for
an ancient site.
I found no dungeon nor
dangerous enemy.
The land provided
no adventure.
With few days of food left,
I fell into a hole
that opened ‘neath me
by chance or Fate.
I fell not far into
a cavern dimly lit
by the hole above
my spinning head.
I must have struck a rock
and brained myself during
the fall into this
dust clouded pit.
Was this an adventure
with artifacts and loot
waiting for me at
the cavern’s depth?
Did I enter my tomb,
to starve alone in the
dark, ‘til I go to
face the dragon?
