Tick said, “I have no work.
A freelance laborer
often has down time
when none need help.”
“I shall accompany
you on your next outing.
Though I’m no Finder,
I am useful.”
“I will have your back in
wild, dangerous places.
I can help you to
keep your head on.”
While laughing, I said, “Yes,
I could use assistance
and it would be less
lonely out there.”
“Go to the market, Tick.
Here is money for food.
Buy us what we’ll need.
I must rest now.”
“Tomorrow we go seek
adventure and relics.
Wren Icemud pays well
for ancient things.”
In the morning, we left
Fleagrass village behind.
The fun restored with
Tick at my side.
We wandered the wilds in
more or less the right way.
I was not certain
how to return.
The sun was hot, but the
air was cold, normal for
autumn in Icebrunt.
The sky was clear.
I had not thought about
winter’s near arrival.
Adventures will have
to wait for spring.
