Letter 17: Slatemire Refugees
This proclamation was posted in public places to alert citizens about the unfolding situation.
Tragedy struck Slatemire village on 1422-11-16. A magical battle occurred between two unknown groups of combatants. The source of the conflict remains unclear. The groups arrived in the village and attacked each other. It is believed that most, if not all of the combatants on both sides were slain. Unfortunately, most of the citizens of Slatemire were also killed.
Refugees have reported that all of the produce in the market suddenly turned to dust. Then all of the livestock died, as they too were turned to dust. Buildings began to fall down. Then the people turned to dust as well.
While this was happening, the fighters were throwing portions of buildings at each other. Fire and lightning streaked through the air killing anyone in the way. The battle did not last for more than an hour. But in that time, the village was utterly destroyed. Most of the citizens are missing and presumed dead.
A lucky few managed to escape the village. They are coming here to Treelin City. Welcome them. Help them. Direct them to our temples. At the temples, they can submit petitions for refugee status. This will give them access to temporary lodging and food that will be distributed by the government.
In the meantime, an investigation is underway to determine the cause of this tragedy. We will apprehend any surviving perpetrators.
