Opal Grainwind Chapter 10
We walked westward from
ruined Goodbrine
seeking for Burrowbee.
I knew this village
sat on the coast.
I hoped that they survived.
The village still stood.
They were untouched.
No giant had trampled.
We spoke of our plight
and begged for aid.
We wished to settle here.
They’d heard of the news,
giant wrought strife
and welcomed us within.
We had to agree
to serve their king
and defend the village.
Our lives on the line
this we did swear
to fight and die for him.
No longer a queen
lost everything
this, the turmoil of life.
Burrowbee had food
ocean supplied
enough to sustain us.
Over the next week
more people came
seeking safety and food.
Their homes were ravaged.
They begged to join
and pledged themselves like me.
They helped with fishing
and lobster traps,
building and guarding too.
Hostile folks arrived
hunting raiders
wanting to eat for free.
Food was plentiful
the ocean gave,
with work to be had too.
No pledge would they give,
only violence.
The guards and I slew them.
