Opal Grainwind Chapter 12
Burrowbee broken
the strange folks gone
the villagers awoke.
No one had been harmed
no cut or bruise
found on the defenders.
We searched the village.
The foes had won,
every home destroyed.
Who were those people
that walked the air
to ruin our village?
Who sent them to us?
What was their goal?
What did ruin achieve?
We pondered our plight
and we took stock.
Our stores of food were safe.
We thanked the Children
for this blessing
and then the land did change.
The ground was quaking,
trees were shaking,
the horizon was marred.
The eastern sky touched
distant, gray hills
from here, just a slight height.
Mountains erupted
from those hilltops
the landscape was changing.
I have traveled far
and through those hills
to the Only Mountain.
Though far from us here
in Burrowbee
I could judge these new heights.
They were not as large
as the Only
yet still they were quite tall.
Foul, murdering wind,
houses attacked,
and now the land rebelled.
Confusion grew strong,
as did terror.
What did these events mean?
