Keeper of Lore

The Book of Temples Chapter 10

Those that dwelt outside
Lord of Feasts’ temple
received their foes’ surrender.

They passed through the gate
expecting splendor
but found sad, hungry people.

The insiders cried,
“What caused your assault?
Are we naught but one People?”

The outsiders said,
“Our god spoke to us
declaring selfish neglect.”

“Lord of Feasts declared
you did not perform
the necessary worship.”

“You claimed more treasure
and food was your due.
Acceding not, he weakened.”

“Now we too suffer.
He cannot provide
enough food and we hunger.”

“The Child God told us
we could take your place
and work inside the temple.”

“This would be reward
once we slay your folk
and resume the rituals.”

The insiders said,
“Our god lied to you.
Behold, we too are starving.”

“Lord of Feasts demands
living sacrifice
animals and humans too.”

“We cannot bear this
no one should perish
to please a powerful god.”

“We refused to kill
but still we performed
other worship rituals.”

“Lord of Feasts withheld
our food and water
while you besieged the front gate.”

The outsiders said,
“It seems that our god
set us against each other.”

Each faction agreed
there would now be peace.
Food was brought in for a feast.

Outside there was food
not enough to share.
But temple workers were fed.

While the People ate,
sharing their new peace,
Lord of Feasts appeared to them.

He declared an end
to sacrifices
no one need perish for him.

The Child God feasted
with his People then
blessed them with plenty of food.
