The Book of Temples Chapter 13
The farms were spread out
around the tower
to feed the Child God’s People.
They were prosperous.
The People ate well
and too, they had great reserves.
Strange beasts lurked nearby,
arrived from far lands,
places with scant nourishment.
From shadow and night,
they raided the farms,
taking their food and livestock.
The farmers did try
to defend their things
but they were weak and unarmed.
They learned of attacks
and where they would be.
They marshaled their fighters there.
Cunning feints fooled them.
Undefended farms
were raided by the vile beasts.
The farmers then sought
the dens of the beasts
to slay them all as they slept.
Their Fate was not known.
They never returned.
These People had failed their task.
The beast raids resumed
with more frequency
and fervent ferocity.
The farmers then sought
Greedy Noble’s aid
begging within their temple.
