Keeper of Lore

The Book of Temples Chapter 17

The People listened
to Greedy Noble.
Their words were disconcerting.

There had been no qualms
while the Child God led.
Who could say no to a god?

Pondiron earned glory,
and rightfully so,
was adored by her people.

Though one of their own,
divinely chosen,
had led them through fear and war.

Should she be a queen,
set loftily high
demanding obedience?

Then Greedy Noble
departed from there
ascending the tower floors.

Pondiron was alone
facing her people
that balked at her regency.

“Our god has left us
to choose our own way
as such, I am no regent.”

“The crown is now mine
your new, rightful queen.
Worry not! I shall still serve.”

“The Grimbat Brigade
and the Hearthowl Guard
shall continue to protect.”

“Your safety ensured,
I now look further
towards other issues to solve.”

“With fealty given
I can now provide
that which many are missing.”

“All of my people
shall no longer lack
work, food, clothing and shelter.”

Many were unsure
that she could lead them
and take the place of a god.

Yet faith they still had
in Greedy Noble
who would not lead them astray.

People accepted
her claims as stated.
Their Child God said it must be.

Her queenship secure,
Pondiron then devised
her government hierarchy.
