The Book of Temples Chapter 26
Haven of Trinkets,
Wielder of Arms and
Delver of Gems as dragons
took flight from the ledge
where sat the main door
that led into the temple.
Glory and Ruin’s
People also left
from the same door but on foot.
By air and by land
eastward they all went
down the side of the mountain.
Each day they traversed,
approaching the hills,
at night they camped with dragons.
By fireside at night
the dragons told tales
of what they saw from the sky.
By day the People
followed a river
born from the Only Mountain.
They walked as it ran
and rested their feet
in the cool water at night.
The river journeyed
eastward to a wood
that soon became a forest.
The river flowed on
piercing the forest
the People entered in kind.
Explorers enjoyed
their time with the trees
such plant life they had not known.
The forest was home
to many creatures
strange and new to the People.
Flying companions
did not join with them
while they wandered further east.
The forest ended
in an abrupt line.
This place had been sourced for wood.
Not far away stood
some people at work
trimming the harvested trees.
The newcomers watched
lumber set afloat
to travel eastward downstream.
The workers noticed
strangers watching them
then their eyes climbed to the sky.
Three dragons landed,
and changing their forms,
joined with the other humans.
The workers believed
that each observer
had also been a dragon.
Enormous lizards
that wandered the skies
frightened them like nought before.
The changing of shapes
stirred them from their fear.
They fled, forsaking their work.
