The Book of Temples Chapter 27
Glory and Ruin’s
People followed them
as they fled eastward towards home.
They did not realize
the strange lumber folk’s
flight was driven by terror.
Eastward they pursued
to greet these new friends.
The newcomers ran with glee.
The dragons ran too
with their human friends.
They were not in dragon form.
Soon they discovered
a village of homes
on the ground and ‘neath the sky.
These buildings were made
of stone, wood and mud.
Each had their own plot of land.
The mountain people
had no knowledge of
shelters built above the ground.
Their home city was
carved into the rock,
places made by removing.
No families had space
outside of their homes,
compartment dwellings in rock.
While viewing this place
villagers formed lines,
weapons readied to defend.
To protect their homes
from monstrous dragons
the villagers chose to kill.
They rushed the people
while they were still small
and not yet changed to dragons.
The visitors froze.
They were not prepared
for violence or defense.
Defenders attacked,
spears and knives piercing,
several people were slain.
Haven of Trinkets
was stabbed by three spears,
heart, lung and throat were ruined.
The dragon was slain.
His human body
offered him no protection.
