The Book of Temples Chapter 28
When their brother died,
the other dragons
shed human shape and grew large.
Colossal bodies
knocked friend and foe down
as they seized space in the press.
The fighting was stopped
by both sides at once.
It had lasted mere moments.
Delver of Gems and
Wielder of Arms both
in sadness and anger roared.
The villagers moved
backwards a pace and
huddled together in fear.
Dragons demanded
an explanation.
Why the unprovoked assault?
The villagers said,
“We saw two monsters
fly in the sky and then land.”
“We saw these monsters
change into humans
and more walk out of the woods.”
“We surmised that you
were similar things
that could grow into great beasts.”
“Decision was made,
we must slay you all
before you could grow too large.”
“Your like was unknown.
Your threat must be stopped
before it would be too late.”
Delver then replied,
“We are not monsters,
but dragons made by our Child.”
“Glory and Ruin
made us to live with
their People from the mountain.”
“Our group is human,
save but three dragons
one of which you have just slain.”
“Our city lies in
the Only Mountain.
We left to explore the world.”
“We meant you no harm
and wanted to meet
more Children’s People abroad.”
The villagers then
apologized for
their rash and violent deeds.
They grieved for the dead
slain by their own hands
and begged the dragons for peace.
Then Wielder of Arms,
not swayed by their pleas
took to the sky in anger.
She wanted distance
from the penitents
lest she strike them in a rage.
