The Book of Temples Chapter 31
Hand and Knife led her
People away from
the Only Mountain’s steep slopes.
They wandered northward,
the Child God leading
whither she would not reveal.
They found a forest
of plentiful pines
and a slow, chilly river.
Child God instructed
her People in ways
of creating some small rafts.
They felled many trees
and gathered long vines
Hand and Knife caused to exist.
They had no strong saws
to cut and shape wood.
The rafts were crude but hearty.
The river carried
the People’s rafts north
before turning to the east.
The People questioned
Child God Hand and Knife,
“Whither does this river go?”
She assured them that
the river would take
the People to their new home.
Many days later
the river emptied
into mysterious sea.
The People marveled
at the dark water’s
vastness matched only by sky.
