Keeper of Lore

The Book of Temples Chapter 45

The farms were now safe,
Lord of Feasts thwarted
yet new threats were arriving.

New people wandered
into the forest
seeking the hidden city.

They claimed it was known
that secret beauty
dwelt within this dark forest.

Though rumors were true,
they could not describe
the city’s full majesty.

Lady of Rain’s folk,
weak to flattery,
allowed the strangers to stay.

They granted them leave
to freely explore
and witness the many sights.

The glorious trees
and shimmering homes
adorned with flowering jewels,

glistening fountains
and marble walkways
wended through sun blessed plazas.

The visitors failed
to maintain this trust,
betrayed immediately.

The fawning people
turned to thievery.
Pleasant demeanor was false.

Raiding galleries,
they burgled sculptures,
and seized many great paintings.

The temple ransacked
its treasures taken,
wondrous objects of gold.

People accosted
and pushed to the ground,
their jewelry was stolen.

Nobody was slain.
The thieves were too quick.
They only wanted riches.

Before departing,
they loudly declared,
their Child God gave them the right.

For Greedy Noble,
the most puissant,
was grandest of the Children.

Yes, Greedy Noble
claimed these things by right.
All must pay tribute to them.
