The Book of Temples Chapter 7
The dread day arrived
the first of the month
human sacrifice was due.
The temple workers
came to the altar
in silence kneeled on the floor.
The day passed away.
No sacrifice made.
Lord of Feasts was not sated.
Descending tower
appeared on altar
he revealed his wrath to them.
He declared failure
to pay him his due
and now all blessings will cease.
The People declared
none shall die for him.
Why does a god desire death?
“You dare to question
a Child of the gods?
I have not given this right.”
“I now cast you out.
No more will you feast.
Your ease in the temple ends.”
“I shall invite those
living on the ground
beneath my splendid temple.”
“These People covet
all that you have here.
They will provide sacrifice.”
The temple workers
Lord of Feasts addressed
departed the altar room.
Barricades were built
and doors were sealed shut
no one can enter or leave.
The temple People
would not allow those
outsiders to suffer this.
No deaths shall occur
to please the Child God.
Days of sacrifice were gone.
