The Book of Temples Chapter 9
The Lord of Feasts rose
to the pinnacle
of his grand temple tower.
From a golden throne
he watched his People
lay siege to the lower floors.
A glorious feast
blanketing table
enhanced his giddy delight.
He supped and he drank
most exquisitely
and watched the chaos below.
Harsh words were dispersed
Lord of Feasts cared not.
They would not parley for peace.
The People outside
strove against their kin
the temple workers inside.
The tower was sieged
for several more days.
No outsider could break through.
The insiders learned
their food had vanished
from then on they would hunger.
Whither it had gone
no one could descry,
no person had eaten it.
They blamed each other.
Witless negligence,
stores had been left unguarded.
There had been no need
for all enemies
were barred from tower entry.
No one suspected
their god had reclaimed
the food he had given them.
Lord of Feasts would not
support these traitors
that had failed to worship him.
When ten days had passed
with nothing to eat
temple workers surrendered.
