The Propagation of the People
From the Spinner's Writ
The Children of the Gods
took the People into the Living World
and taught them the ways of life:
the means to conquer hunger,
exposure and loneliness.
Each Child gathered select People
and took them to far off
corners of the land.
They built homes in small clusters
and the People intermingled
and soon there were more People
and they needed more homes
and the People intermingled
and there were more People
and many more homes.
These devout People
constructed temples
dedicated to the
Children that Chose them.
Cults were founded
with unique mandates
apart from The Mandate.
The Children would meet
atop the Only Mountain
and boast about their People.
Lord of Feasts shouted
that his People
were tending animals
for food and more.
Hand and Knife lilted
that her People
were fishing the rivers and sea
for food and more.
Lady of Rain sung
that her People
were growing crops
for food and more.
Wise Vengeance bragged
that his People
were hunting wild animals
for food and more.
Greedy Noble whispered
that their People
secretly stole all that they needed
for food and more.
Glory and Ruin screamed
that their People
raided their neighbors and seized
their food and more.
For the People,
time passed,
generation after generation
and they became proficient
in surviving the Living World.
For the Children,
time was meaningless,
not something that
they could apprehend
and they competed
amongst themselves,
pushing their devotees
to their uttermost limits
until they were exhausted,
depressed and withering.
The Children’s game climaxed
when the borders
of the devout People’s lands
pushed passed each other.
Squabbles over land
became fights over borders
that ended with violent
warfare that left many dead.
For no one wins when war
is the tool,
not even the victor.
The Queen and King
witnessed the massacre
of the People and
advised their Children
that this game was concluded.
They should not be so
careless with their playthings.
