The Spinner's Writ: Akgnyd
Myrtaro wandered the world
exploring his newfound joy of slaying.
The terror of dying things
gladdened his heart.
The light of the sun
was ahead of him,
within which creatures
lived and thrived.
But in his shadow lay
nought but death
and suffering.
The mother and father
witnessed this wanton malice
and wept for those that suffered.
The hunting of prey for food
was by design and a necessity
to ensure continued life.
But Myrtaro's killing for sport
broke their hearts.
From this shared heartbreak
sprang forth a new Child,
born to the world
fully formed and grown.
The Child declared in a
strong and sonorous voice,
“I am Akgnydweskibnoxolwgg
and I will set things right.
Myrtaro will learn that what
he commits are crimes.
Killing should never be sport.”
Akgnydweskibnoxolwgg means,
“Righteous Hunter and Steward of the Wild Beasts,”
but we know him as Akgnyd for short.
Myrtaro found himself
followed by a stranger.
He placed a murdered
fawn roughly on the ground
and confronted his pursuer.
“I am a Child of the gods
and none shall accost me.
Reveal yourself, stranger.
I would know all those who
secret themselves within
by shadow,” Myrtaro proclaimed.
The stranger crested a hill
and looked down upon his quarry.
“I am the hunter Akgnyd
and I too am a Child of the gods.
You have brought me to you
with the trail of dead creatures
that lay behind you.”
“What of it?” Myrtaro cried.
“Who are you to question
the things that I enjoy?”
Akgnyd said, “I bring
righteousness and laws
that govern the hunting
and slaying of creatures.
Causing terror for sport is wrong.
Killing for sport is wrong.
The meat of animals
is to nourish other animals.
For this reason alone shall they perish.”
“Why should I obey your laws?”
“Because through me,
the queen and king of the world
declare this to be what is right and good.
Those that defy their rule shall be punished.”
Myrtaro had never known punishment
in this land devoid of rule.
He did not care for these laws,
but also feared the unknown consequences
threatened by his new fearsome brother.
With a sneer and a bow,
Myrtaro said, “I shall obey
my mother and father.”
Akgnyd waved Myrtaro away
and traveled the land
with a watchful eye
and stern justice.
The King and Queen spoke
to their Child of his new
domains of governance.
He has duties.
Akgnyd governs hunting,
leadership, justice, retribution
and vigilance.
