Keeper of Lore

The Spinner's Writ: Qayirw

In a dusky time
of neither night nor day,
the world's Mother and Father
strolled hand in hand.

Gathered ‘round their feet
thousands of dry flowers
bowed, begged and prayed for succor,
“Please nourish us!”

The Queen of the World
listened to their laments
and brought forth a gentle rain
to slake their thirst.

The flowers glistened
with her majesty's rain.
They revealed fierce hunger, now
eager to feed.

The King of the World
his heart moved by their wails,
caused the sun to climb upon
the sky's ladder.

The flowers feasted.
Their needs for life now met.
They raised their gaze to goddess,
god and the sky.

The sunlight blended
with the glittering drops
of rain, like gems tumbling
down from the sky.

“A rainbow!” the god
exclaimed. “Such beauty we
have wrought!” the goddess declared.
As one, they said,

“Behold the beauty
of this Child. Her name is
Qayirwoiueldyrqatzeek.
She is perfect.”

Her name is “Gentle
Rains Glitter in the Beams
of Newly Wrought Sunlight” or
short: Qayirw.

Upon utterance
of her name, the raindrops
coalesced into the form
of a young Child.

Qayirw laughed with
glee. Then the hearts of her
Mother and Father were glad
and brimmed with love.

Eager to please her
parents and ready to
display her talents, the Child
called to the gods,

“Behold! Look at what
I can do!” Qayirw threw
her hands into the air and
rainbows shattered

like ice shaken from
frozen tree branches that
falls glittering to a bed
of sparkling snow.

Gems in dazzling
hues fell from the rainbow
and scattered as
Qayirw sang, danced and twirled.

The King and Queen spoke
to their Child of her new
domains of governance.
She has duties.

Qayirw governs
the rain and the rainbows,
gems, jewels, bright happy things and
nourishment.
