The Spinner’s Writ: The Birth of the World
Before the world was wrought, there were the god and the goddess.
Where they lived, we can not know.
How they lived and how old they were, we can not know.
The god and the goddess wished to have Children.
Not one child would suffice, nor just a few.
They had many Children all at once, so they could all grow
To adulthood at the same time.
As the Children grew from infancy, they needed playthings.
The Mother and Father created the world.
The Children explored the lands, played in the waters and climbed the trees.
Over time, they grew bored. They outgrew the simple games that they used to love.
The Mother and the Father gave People to their Children.
The People lived on the world and the children played with these new toys.
At first, the games were good fun. The People were controlled by the Children
and they lived bright and full lives.
But the Children’s games turned cruel.
They began to find delight in tormenting their toys.
The Mother and Father were outraged that their own Children could be so cruel.
The Children did not know that the People had thoughts and feelings of their own.
The Children could not comprehend their suffering, having never suffered themselves.
The Mother and Father taught their Children right and wrong.
The Children were approaching adulthood.
As part of their learning and also as penance, each Child was given a Task.
Each Child was responsible for different parts of the world
as well as different aspects of People’s lives.
They were Tasked with answering the People’s prayers and setting things right.
