The Unfated Wanderers Canto 36
Keeper of Lore completed the journey to Bramblefog Tower and deposited the Unfated Wanderers a distance from the Quickstream Cult’s position. The doughty warriors set upon their foes with weapons brandished and fury kindled. The cultists’ magic had warned of their arrival and so they stopped the attack with a word, “Please!”
Vilerend and Billet remained ready but listened to the wizard’s words, “We do not wish to kill you or your friends. We need this tower. It belongs to Queen Quickstream, as it sits within her land. Come forth and we will discuss the matter. We have food and drink aplenty. These were made scarce by the Apocalypse. We will share with you.”
The Unfated Wanderers were wisely wary and did not succumb to the trap, though their stomachs rumbled their own plea for succor. They put their weapons to work and slew the villains before they could cast their spells and conquer the Wanderers’ minds in the Quickstream way.
Keeper of Lore walked with the Wanderers to where the waiting Learned Scholars of Icebrunt stood, not far from the entrance to Bramblefog Tower. These people had been transported by Keeper from tower to tower. She spoke of the victory and encouraged them to enter the structure. Care must be taken as there could be hidden foes or perilous hazards waiting within.
The search was quickly completed and all was well. A new home was secure. Plans were made to seek out nearby villages that might have a supply of food. This area of Icebrunt was significantly more fertile than the north. Perhaps they had fared better during the apocalyptic upheaval.
The Unfated Wanderers discovered a partially collapsed wall in a basement. This section had been bricked over to conceal several ancient tablets. They thought on advice previously received: any strange occurrences should be considered as acts of prophecy implanted into the past to be present when needed now.
Several Scholars were eager to study the tablets. They spent the night translating them. The next morning, the waking cohort was treated to a reading from the find.
